A24 is slaying it with their independent releases, supporting great filmmakers and creators. The Witch was one of my favorite films last year, and with the upcoming It Comes at Night, A24 may have another winner on their hands. Check out the trailer for the new horror film:
I love trailer that use audio clips from the movie to create a beat, that builds with increasingly tense images. I first noticed that trend in the excellent trailer for the Coen Brothers’ Burn After Reading, and it’s used to great effect in the teaser trailer above.
Not much information exists for this film, outside of the facts that it is directed by Trey Edward Shults (Krisha) and stars Joel Edgerton (!), Riley Keough, Christopher Abbott, Kelvin Harrison Jr, and Carmen Ejogo. All I know is what is shown in the trailer, so something about a door that shouldn’t have been opened and a bunch of creepy imagery and sound editing.
I’ve been digging the independent horror films of the past few years, particularly the aforementioned The Witch, It Follows, The Guest, and You’re Next. If the marketing for It Comes at Night continues to be as strong as this trailer, then we may be in for another great independent horror film.
