During the Warner Brothers Panel at this years Comic-Con in San Diego, WB released a couple new looks at two of their upcoming superhero epics. The first is the trailer for Wonder Woman, starring Gal Gadot and Chris Pine and directed by Patty Jenkins, and the trailer is fantastic. It is a good piece of marketing that shows a lot of Wonder Woman in action and damn, does this movie look absolutely stunning in its visuals. Check it out below:
The cinematography is beautiful, particularly how Jenkins is making sure the costume stands out among the battlefields, it’s a great use of contrast and I can’t wait to see how this film looks on the big screen. The action is great and it seems as if the movie is using a lot of slow motion, but it’s more to highlight Wonder Woman’s speed and strength and not just as a stylistic choice. Plus that shot of Wonder Woman using her whip against soldiers and possibly a tank was great.
I really enjoy the World War One setting and the filmmakers appear to be using it well in regards to showing how out of place Diane Prince is in this world with her warrior and feminist ways. The trailer also highlights the danger and violence of war, making it seem as if the action has real stakes and not just exist for entertainment.
The trailer does the film a lot of justice and makes it look like a thrilling movie. I was already excited to see a Wonder Woman film after seeing her in Batman V Superman, and now I anticipate the film even more. One more thing, I am really happy the filmmakers are keeping her badass music theme from BvS. It’s gnarly and amazing and is one of the highlights of this comic book universe. Marvel doesn’t have memorable superhero musical themes, but DC does. Wonder Woman opens in the US on June 2, 2017.
