La La Land Trailer – City of Stars

The first teaser trailer for Damien Chazelle’s latest film La La Land, starring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling, was released a couple days and damn does this look like it could be a beautiful musical.  In the film Gosling plays a jazz pianist who falls in love with a aspiring actress and the film follows their love story.  Chazelle wrote a fun Hitchcock-light thriller than involved a piano concert called The Grand Piano and he wrote and directed the unbelievably fantastic Whiplash, which is one of the best films of the past few years.  Chazelle has a background in music and clearly has a wonderful grasp on melding music and film to create interesting stories.  The trailer for La La Land, though short, has many moments that tease the modern and classical film musical elements used in this movie, and damn does this movie look beautiful.  Check out the trailer below:

From that opening shot of Los Angeles, to Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling dancing in the stars at the planetarium, to the wonderful short song “City of Stars” as performed by Ryan Gosling, this film looks gorgeous.   There are so many stylish shots in this quick tantalizing teaser.

This film looks stunning.  I am not the biggest fans of musicals and often don’t find them that engaging, but with this cast, this director, and this great teaser trailer with the jazzy, soulful “City of Stars” playing over a set of great imagery, I am officially excited for this film.  I hope this movie offers a lot of the energy and flair this trailer possesses.
